New York State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop of Bronx resident Steven Nevarez shortly before 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 30 in Plattekill for an equipment violation. During the subsequent stop, troopers said that they were given probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.
During that search, troopers determined that Nevarez was in possession of more than a pound of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with a felony count of criminal possession of marijuana. He was also cited for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Following his arraignment, Nevarez was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He is due to appear in the Town of Plattekill Court on Jan. 5 to answer the charges.
